Description
Delicious air fryer teriyaki chicken, perfectly marinated and cooked to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2/3 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2–3 teaspoons light brown sugar (optional if using store bought but strongly recommended if making your own teriyaki)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger (or to taste, or about 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, finely grated)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (or to taste)
- 1 to 1 1/2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts (diced into 1-inch bite-sized pieces, boneless chicken thighs may be substituted)
- 1 teaspoon olive oil for coating air fryer basket
- Green onions (thinly sliced, optional for garnishing)
- Toasted sesame seeds (optional for garnishing)
Instructions
- To a large bowl, add the teriyaki sauce, olive oil, optional light brown sugar, garlic powder, ginger, salt, pepper, and stir to combine to create a marinade.
- Add the diced chicken to the bowl, stir to combine and coat, cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 6-8 hours. If you have 1-2 hours, that’s perfect.
- When you’re ready to air fry, I recommend drizzling about 1 teaspoon olive oil over the air fryer basket or you can spray it with cooking spray.
- Preheat air fryer to 385F if yours requires it. I like to air fry in the 380-390F range to prevent the chicken from drying out.
- Using tongs or a slotted spoon, add the chicken to the air fryer in an even flat layer (try not to overlap or pile pieces). Discard excess marinade.
- Air fry for about 10 to 15 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through to 165F measured with a digital thermometer; flip once midway through cooking.
- Optionally garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, and serve immediately. I like to serve it with rice.
Notes
- Some air fryers have different sizes, strengths, and cooking times, always ensure the chicken is fully cooked.
- Cooking at higher temperatures may reduce cooking time but can also cause charring.
- This recipe may take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes of cooking time based on chicken portion and air fryer type.
