This makes them an excellent choice for those who crave something sweet but don’t want to overload on sugar.

What makes Cinnamon Applesauce Muffins a delightful treat?

Here are a few key highlights about why cinnamon applesauce muffins deserve a spot in your recipe rotation:

  • Natural Sweetness: Using applesauce allows you to reduce the refined sugar in the recipe without sacrificing flavor. The natural sugars found in apples create a deliciously sweet muffin that feels indulgent but is actually healthier.

  • Warm Spices: Cinnamon is not just a flavor enhancer; it has health benefits too! Packed with antioxidants, cinnamon can help lower blood sugar levels and has anti-inflammatory properties. Each bite of these muffins will not only satisfy your taste buds but also offer a touch of well-being.

  • Versatile Enjoyment: These muffins are perfect for any time of day. Whether you’re packing them in a lunchbox, serving them at brunch with friends, or enjoying one as an afternoon snack, they are versatile enough to complement any occasion.

Incorporating these muffins into your baking repertoire will not only delight your taste buds but also add a touch of warmth and comfort to your day. So grab those mixing bowls, and let’s dive into the delightful world of cinnamon applesauce muffins!

Key Ingredients for Cinnamon Applesauce Muffins

Applesauce is the star of these cinnamon applesauce muffins, bringing together comfort and sweetness in every bite. This humble ingredient not only provides moisture but also cuts down on the amount of sugar you might normally add.

  • Applesauce: I prefer using unsweetened applesauce, as it allows the natural flavors of the other ingredients to shine through. If you have homemade applesauce, even better! It adds a personal touch to your muffins.

  • Cinnamon: This spice adds depth and warmth to our muffins. I recommend using Ceylon cinnamon for a more delicate flavor, although regular cassia cinnamon works well too.

  • Flour: All-purpose flour is my go-to choice for these muffins. It balances the moisture from the applesauce perfectly. You can swap it for a gluten-free blend if needed.

  • Sugar: I like to use a combination of brown sugar for that hint of caramel flavor and granulated sugar for sweetness. This mixture creates a lovely crumb.

  • Eggs: Using one large egg not only binds the ingredients but also helps to create a fluffy texture.

  • Baking Powder and Baking Soda: The duo of leavening agents ensures the muffins rise beautifully while maintaining a soft and fluffy interior.

Each of these key ingredients melds together to create a muffin that’s not only delicious but also a delightful way to enjoy the flavors of fall year-round.

Why You’ll Love These Cinnamon Applesauce Muffins

Tender and Moist Texture

The key to these muffins’ tenderness is the generous amount of applesauce. Using unsweetened applesauce not only adds flavor but also keeps them moist without the need for excessive butter or oil. That means you can indulge guilt-free!

Tips for Making Perfect Cinnamon Applesauce Muffins

Crafting the ideal cinnamon applesauce muffins is a delightful journey that combines the warmth of spices with the comfort of home-baked treats. With a few simple yet effective techniques, you can elevate these muffins from good to great.

Choose Your Applesauce Wisely

The key to moist and flavorful muffins lies in the applesauce. Opt for unsweetened applesauce made from real apples, rather than pre-packaged sweetened varieties. This ensures a natural sweetness while allowing the cinnamon to shine through.

Don’t Skimp on Cinnamon

The heart of these muffins is, of course, the cinnamon. For an extra flavor kick, consider using a blend of ground cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg. This combination will elevate your muffins, making them fragrant and irresistible.

Measure Ingredients Accurately

When it comes to baking, precision is crucial. Use a kitchen scale for the best accuracy, especially for flour. This prevents your muffins from becoming dense. Remember, spooning flour directly from the bag can lead to over-measurement.

Mix Wisely

Mix your wet and dry ingredients separately before combining them. Over-mixing can lead to tough muffins, so stir until just combined. A few lumps in the batter are perfectly fine!

With these tips, you’ll be well on your way to baking cinnamon applesauce muffins that not only taste delicious but also feel like home with every bite. Happy baking!

Description

Deliciously moist and flavorful cinnamon sugar muffins that are perfect for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup light brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup canola or vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup cinnamon applesauce
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons milk (I use whole milk)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350°.
  2. Line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners and lightly spray them with cooking spray OR you can just spray the pan well with cooking spray and not use liners. I have done it both ways and it turns out fine either way.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, oil, and egg with a whisk. Mix until it’s dark in color and thick.
  4. Add the applesauce, sour cream, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir with the whisk until combined.
  5. Add in the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula just until combined and no flour streaks remain.
  6. Scoop the batter into each muffin cup filling each one nearly full (about 3/4 full with slightly more being ok).
  7. Bake for 17-20 minutes or until tops are puffy and rounded.
  8. Let the muffins cool in the pan for about 20 minutes or until you can handle them.
  9. Put the melted butter into one bowl. To another bowl, stir together the sugar and cinnamon.
  10. Grab a muffin and dip the top only into the melted butter and then immediately into the cinnamon & sugar. Roll the muffin around so that you can get the sides of the top of the muffin.
  11. Place the dipped muffins on a cooling rack to finish cooling completely OR eat one warm! It’s really good.
  12. Store leftovers at room temperature in an airtight container.
