Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ¾ cup milk
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix Meatloaf: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, egg, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape: Form the mixture into a loaf shape and place it in a greased loaf pan or on a lined baking tray.
  4. Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Glaze Meatloaf: Spread half of the glaze mixture evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  6. Bake: Place meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  7. Apply Remaining Glaze: About 10 minutes before the meatloaf is done, spread the remaining glaze over the top.
  8. Rest: Once baked, remove from oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • Texture: For a moister texture, consider adding a splash of beef broth to the meat mixture.
  • Add-Ins: You can mix in chopped herbs like parsley or thyme for added flavor.
  • Substitute: Swap out beef for turkey for a leaner version.
  • Sides: Serve with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables for a classic meal pairing.
