Description
Delicious puff pastry trees filled with ham and cheese, perfect for festive gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 sheets puff pastry
- 12 slices deli ham
- 12 slices cheese (cheddar, gouda, Swiss, or mozzarella)
- 24 pieces wooden skewers
- 4 tbsp melted butter
- 2 tsp minced garlic
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- 1 sprinkle of sesame or poppy seeds
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Assemble the pastry: Place a sheet of puff pastry on a clean surface. Layer it with slices of cheese followed by slices of ham, then top it with a second sheet of pastry, gently pressing to seal.
- Cut strips: Grab a sharp knife and cut the layered pastry into 1-inch wide strips.
- Shape the trees: Take each strip and fold it back and forth onto a skewer to form a cute, whimsical tree shape.
- Make the glaze: In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, garlic, and parsley.
- Brush the glaze: Generously brush the garlic butter mixture over each pastry tree.
- Bake: Pop the trees into your preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until they’re puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and serve: Once baked, let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy these warm!
Notes
- Keep puff pastry cold up until baking for the best puff.
- Consider turkey as a delightful alternative to deli ham.
- Choose a good melting cheese for optimal results.
- Toothpicks can work but may not hold as well as skewers.
- Fresh garlic adds a robust flavor kick.
- Offers a touch of freshness and color with chopped parsley.
- Optional but highly encouraged for visual appeal: sprinkle of sesame or poppy seeds.
