Description

Delicious puff pastry trees filled with ham and cheese, perfect for festive gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • 12 slices deli ham
  • 12 slices cheese (cheddar, gouda, Swiss, or mozzarella)
  • 24 pieces wooden skewers
  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 sprinkle of sesame or poppy seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Assemble the pastry: Place a sheet of puff pastry on a clean surface. Layer it with slices of cheese followed by slices of ham, then top it with a second sheet of pastry, gently pressing to seal.
  3. Cut strips: Grab a sharp knife and cut the layered pastry into 1-inch wide strips.
  4. Shape the trees: Take each strip and fold it back and forth onto a skewer to form a cute, whimsical tree shape.
  5. Make the glaze: In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, garlic, and parsley.
  6. Brush the glaze: Generously brush the garlic butter mixture over each pastry tree.
  7. Bake: Pop the trees into your preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until they’re puffed up and golden brown.
  8. Cool and serve: Once baked, let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy these warm!

Notes

  • Keep puff pastry cold up until baking for the best puff.
  • Consider turkey as a delightful alternative to deli ham.
  • Choose a good melting cheese for optimal results.
  • Toothpicks can work but may not hold as well as skewers.
  • Fresh garlic adds a robust flavor kick.
  • Offers a touch of freshness and color with chopped parsley.
  • Optional but highly encouraged for visual appeal: sprinkle of sesame or poppy seeds.
