Description
A delicious layered dessert featuring fresh berries and a creamy filling.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh strawberries (sliced)
- 2 cups fresh raspberries
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 loaf pound cake or sponge cake (cubed)
- Confectioners’ sugar (for dusting)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- Mint leaves (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Berries: In a bowl, mix the sliced strawberries and raspberries with 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and lemon juice. Let it sit to release juices (about 15 minutes).
- Make the Cream Layer: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the remaining 1/2 cup of granulated sugar until smooth. Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Beat until soft peaks form.
- Assemble the Trifle: In a large trifle dish, place a layer of cubed pound cake at the bottom. Spread a layer of the cream mixture over the cake. Add a layer of the berry mixture on top. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with the cream layer.
- Chill: Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Garnish and Serve: Before serving, dust the top with confectioners’ sugar for a decorative touch. Top with fresh sliced strawberries and mint leaves if desired.
Notes
- For added flavor, you can drizzle 1/4 cup of berry or raspberry liqueur over the cake pieces before layering.
- Use a mixture of different berries for variety, such as blueberries and blackberries.
- Ensure the cream mixture forms soft peaks to give the trifle a light and airy texture.
- Allow the trifle to chill properly for a firmer consistency and enhanced flavor.
